According to an article in ‘Dominican Today’ published in the Friday, August 7, 2026 edition, this achievement highlights the country’s progress in implementing its National Digital Health Strategy and in building a more integrated digital health system.At the regional conference called the “Pan-American Digital Health Road” 2026 (known as PH4H 2026), a regional initiative launched by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), the Dominican technical teams completed all the planned tests, placing the country among the top-performing delegations in this regional exercise.
The tests evaluated the exchange of health information between countries in real-life situations. The exercises focused on five key areas: the International Patient Summary (IPS), cross-border teleconsultations, electronic yellow fever vaccination certificates, electronic prescriptions, and cybersecurity mechanisms.The positive results achieved have shown the country’s ability to generate and share clinical summaries, validate digital vaccination certificates, process telemedicine requests, access drug information, and use security tools like digital signatures and QR codes to protect health data.
The Ministry of Public Health stated that this experience marks an important step toward implementing a single Electronic Health Record (EHR), which will allow authorized access to patients’ clinical information, no matter where it was produced.
