In front of authorities, educational leaders, students, and community members, the head of government assured that elections will take place and encouraged the population to register in order to be able to vote or run as candidates.
“I guarantee you that there will be elections, whether we like it or not,” said the Prime Minister, specifically inviting young people not to stay on the sidelines of the process. “Go get yourselves registered to vote, choose your future representatives, and, why not, even run as candidates yourselves,” he added.Alix Didier Fils-Aimé also regretted the absence, in his opinion, of an elected official from the South capable of defending the region’s interests at the national level. “It is unacceptable that today people from the South don’t have an elected representative to defend their interests in Port-au-Prince,” he stated.
The Prime Minister framed his speech around two priorities: education and civic engagement. Addressing the young people present at the ceremony, he urged them to get more involved in the future of the country.
“Dear young people, this is your country. Elections are going to be held. Take charge of your country and your future,” he said.This statement comes on the first day of the Prime Minister’s tour in the far South, scheduled from August 13 to 15. According to the Prime Minister’s office, this visit is mainly aimed at strengthening the state’s presence in the areas and discussing security and development issues with local stakeholders.
