During a press briefing held at his office, at the Occide Jeanty kiosk on the Champ de Mars, the general director of the National School of Arts (ENARTS) and the National Theater of Haiti (TND’H), Yves Penel, presented the schedule for the two institutions he leads, which will be heading to Brazil and Benin.

Yves Penel announced that the institutions he runs will be at the Arts and Culture Festival in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. From August 26 to September 2, the artists from these two renowned public institutions will be setting up in the land of Carmen Miranda.According to director Yves Penel, the National Theater of Haiti and ENARTS have a packed schedule from the end of August through October, both in Haiti and abroad.

“We will be in Brazil and Benin at the same time. A delegation from the National Theater of Haiti will take part in the arts and culture festival in the land of King Pelé; and another will participate in an exhibition in the land of our ancestors, Benin,” explained Yves Penel.

In Brazil, the National Theater of Haiti will be presenting several artistic performances, including the play Lakou, which was very successful during its performances at the Karibe Hotel and El Rancho Convention Center. The TND’H delegation is made up of all our dancers, actors, and singers who have participated in several national events, both in Port-au-Prince and in our provincial cities, including Jacmel, Les Cayes, Jérémie, and Fort-Liberté.

“We want to present the play Lakou at this festival because of all the values it conveys, values that represent the Haitian soul: everything we have in terms of culture, customs, and traditions, and our beliefs, through voodoo. Lakou is our identity; it’s ourselves. It’s a work of memory. Lakou is a return to the roots. Lakou is a total show,” said Mr. Penel. While a delegation from the National Theater of Haiti is busy in Brazil, another group, including painters, will be showcasing our paintings in Benin, the official says. Several artists from the National School of Arts will present their artistic world at this major traveling event.

Furthermore, the head of the National Theater pointed out that his institution is never idle. According to him, the NTH is carrying out other activities simultaneously. “At the National Theater, we have an ongoing art workshop called the Emmanuel Ménard Workshop. I want to let you know that this training will take place at the Occide Jeanty kiosk, at the NTH office, from August 10 to October 2, 2026,” he explained, encouraging young people to come and participate in this workshop.”We have several institutions participating. I invite young people to come in large numbers to take part in this workshop. At the National Theater of Haiti, we have sections for theater, dance, singing, and the young audience animation section. This training will be led by a team of experienced teachers who have trained several generations of professionals for the National Theater of Haiti and the whole country,” he specified.
