On the occasion of the celebration of World Press Freedom Day on May 3, the Minister of Culture and Communication Emmanuel Ménard launched, on Monday, May 4, 2026, the national awards Jean Price-Mars of Haitian Thought, Liliane Pierre-Paul of Press Freedom, Frankétienne of Haitian Creation, Félix Morisseau Leroy of Literature in Creole Expression, and Nemours Jean-Baptiste of Musical Performance. This distinction, intended for artists, writers, and media professionals in Haiti, reflects the government’s desire to pay well-deserved tribute to Haitian personalities who have shaped national life and to reward excellence in all sectors of social and cultural life in our country.Twenty-four hours after the official announcement of the awards intended to honor the professionals, actors, or operators who will be selected for their commitment and talent, the Minister of Culture and Communication, Emmanuel Ménard, provided clarifications on the meaning and relevance of this decision made by the government led by Mr. Alix Didier Fils-Aimé. It must be said that this type of initiative requires a form of continuity that is very difficult to implement in an unstable country like ours, that of maintaining a public/private partnership space over time where everything encourages amnesia, fatigue, and prior failure. In his speech delivered on Monday, May 4, 2026, at the Montana Hotel, Mr. Emmanuel Ménard emphasized the need to create an enlightened partnership between the journalistic community, media owners, society, and public authorities capable of promoting the free flow of information, access to various sources, and the rigorous handling of information by diligent and responsible professionals. This highlights how essential such a partnership is for the good of the country. The need for ongoing dialogue, to think together about what divides or differentiates us instead of wastingly tearing each other apart.
