The Prime Minister, however, conditions the organization of the election on an improvement in the security situation in the country.

Haitian Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé stated that he hopes to launch the first round of elections before the end of 2026, while acknowledging that the current security conditions prevent the immediate organization of the vote.

In an interview with Le Nouvelliste, the head of government said that it would be difficult to hold elections as early as August, due to the persistent insecurity in several regions of the country.

“I would like the elections to start by the end of the year so that they can be completed at the beginning of the next year and have a president elected by February 7, 2027,” said the Prime Minister.

Alix Didier Fils-Aimé says he does not want to involve the population in an electoral process without minimal security guarantees.
