The city of Jacmel hosted the first edition of the Friendship Film Festival. Organized from May 16 to 18, 2026, on the Toussaint Louverture public square, this cultural and artistic event aimed to create a bridge between cinema enthusiasts and professionals through outdoor film screenings, talks, and panel discussions. The goal was to revive the love of the seventh art in the hearts of the people of Jacmel. For the organizers, this first edition was a true success.“It is with a feeling of joy, satisfaction, and pride that we have completed the first edition of the Friendship Film Festival. It is a great pride to have carried out such an event in Jacmel, despite the deleterious security situation that the country has been experiencing for some time. It is also a pride to have overcome the challenges and gone through the many obstacles,” said the festival coordinator, Sherlande Étienne.
She recalled that this festival aims to reconnect the city of Jacmel with this art for which it is renowned, notably through old cultural traditions such as ‘cinema under the stars’ and the Jacmel Film Festival.
