From August 1 to 8, 2026, the Maurice Cadet Cultural Center in Jacmel will host the writer Lyonel Trouillot, as part of its traditional activity ‘Meeting the Writers’.
According to Rodney Saintil, Executive Director of the Maurice Cadet Cultural Center, this initiative aims to bring young people closer to writers. If we believe the philosopher’s words, this training workshop for young people in the Southeast metropolitan area aims to create a space for exchanging ideas about reading, writing, and thinking. For a week, the author of La Belle Amour humaine (2011) will share his art, literature, and experience with the youth of Jacmel.
For his part, the person in charge of cultural activities, Arguens Jean Mary, believes that this meeting will allow young people to discover Lyonel Trouillot, his work, and his worldview. According to the poet, this event also reflects the Maurice Cadet Cultural Center’s desire to promote reading, artistic creation, and the development of an open and engaged youth.
Let’s note that the Maurice Cadet Cultural Center is a place for dialogue and openness. It welcomes a diversity of ideas. According to the lawyer Rodney Saintil, literature, the arts, and creativity help develop critical thinking and freedom of thought.
Besides the Maurice Cadet Cultural Center, several other spaces will host the author’s talks and book signings. These include, among others, the Notre-Dame University of Haiti (UNDH) in Jacmel, the Jacmel Municipal Library, and Rue du Commerce, a space that is part of the city’s intangible heritage.
From August 1 to 8, 2026, Lionel Trouillot’s words will resonate in Jacmel’s cultural spaces. This meeting will be one of a writer, a city, and youth in search of knowledge and inspiration.
