The Group for the Support of Repatriated and Refugees (GARR) strongly condemns ‘the completely shocking and inhuman treatment’ inflicted on a Haitian migrant in the Dominican Republic. According to the Dominican newspaper Diario Libre, this incident occurred in the province of San Juan de la Maguana during a stop involving migration officers. A video that went viral on social media shows two Dominican migration officers speeding on a motorcycle while transporting a barefoot and visibly terrified Haitian migrant, treating him like a mere object, reports GARR. The General Directorate of Migration (DGM) announced on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, the opening of an investigation into this act.
