As the guest of honor at the ceremony marking the 20th anniversary of the network of departmental public universities, organized by the Northern Public University in Cap-Haïtien (UPNCH), Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé acknowledged the difficulties faced by public universities, notably chronic underfunding and insufficient resources. After attending the ceremony, the Prime Minister then went to Cap-Haïtien City Hall, where he met with the mayors of the city.
“This meeting allowed us to discuss the main ongoing projects as well as development prospects for the northern department. The discussions also focused on the need to strengthen stability, institutional calm, and coordination between national and local authorities to create the right conditions for holding credible, inclusive, and peaceful elections,” the Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement.On the sidelines of his visit, the Prime Minister also met with Archbishop Launay Saturné of Cap-Haïtien. This meeting, described by the government as cordial, is part of a dialogue process with the key forces of the nation on major issues affecting Haitian society, notably education, university training, territorial development, and the strengthening of civic values, according to the Prime Minister’s Office statement.
“The discussions allowed for addressing the importance of the Church’s and educational institutions’ contributions in building a fairer, more supportive society oriented towards the future,” the Prime Minister’s Office stated, adding that the Prime Minister praised Archbishop Launay Saturné’s ongoing commitment to social peace, collective well-being, and promoting education as a crucial lever for national transformation.”Through this meeting, the head of government reaffirms his commitment to maintaining an open and constructive dialogue with the various sectors of society, with a view to combining the necessary efforts for the progress and development of Haiti,” the statement emphasizes.
After the meeting with the religious leader, the Prime Minister’s tour continued with the presentation of the development plan for Cap-Haitien International Airport by the Director General of Toussaint Louverture International Airport.According to the government, this initiative is part of the effort to transform Haiti’s airport sector, aiming to improve reception capacities, meet the growing needs of travelers, and support the economic development of the Grand North.
“The presentation of this plan shows the government’s commitment to continue making major investments to provide the country with modern, resilient infrastructure that meets international standards,” the statement said.
