In his work, Moïse does not tell a story; he does not hide behind a narrative and does not try to be conciliatory. He has a message, and he conveys it with force. Through his writing, Moïse reminds us of the facts; he shakes our inner consciousness as the first black nation freed from slavery. He reminds us that we are no longer slaves and that we must now detach ourselves from everything that made us slaves: deculturation, loss of identity, and forgetting of self.
