The General Directorate of Migration (DGM) of the Dominican Republic announced that it expelled a total of 34,226 Haitian nationals in irregular situations during the month of June. This brings the total number of repatriations to 196,321 for the first half of 2026, reports the Dominican Today newspaper in its July 1 edition.

According to the agency, since Vice Admiral Luis Rafael Lee Ballester took office as head of the DGM on October 1, 2024, the total number of undocumented Haitian migrants repatriated amounts to 670,500. These operations were carried out with the support of the armed forces and other state security services, as part of strengthening the government’s immigration policy. On June 30th, authorities arrested 980 foreigners living illegally in the country and deported 1,041 following operations conducted in several provinces, including Greater Santo Domingo, Santiago, Pedernales, Elías Piña, and Dajabón.

It’s worth recalling that this tightening of migration measures in the Dominican Republic dates back to October 2024, when Dominican authorities put together a plan to repatriate 10,000 Haitians each week in order to control the waves of irregular migration coming from Haiti.

On the other hand, the Dominican General Directorate of Immigration said it will continue coordinating with international human rights organizations to ensure the dignity of people involved in migration procedures is respected.
