The Group for the Support of Repatriates and Refugees (GARR) strongly condemns the “completely shocking and inhumane treatment” given to a Haitian migrant in the Dominican Republic. According to the Dominican newspaper Diario Libre, this incident happened in the province of San Juan de la Maguana during an operation involving migration officers. A video that went viral on social media shows two Dominican migration officers speeding on a motorcycle while carrying a barefoot and visibly terrified Haitian migrant, treated like a mere object, reports GARR. The General Directorate of Migration (DGM) announced on Tuesday, July 21, the opening of an investigation into this act.
