“The Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) informs the general press and approved political parties in particular that, at the request of several political organizations, the registration period for political groups has been extended until July 31, 2026,” says the note, shared on the electoral institution’s social media.
“Thus, the approved political parties wishing to form political groups have an additional period until Friday, July 31, 2026, inclusive, to submit their registration files at the central office of the electoral institution in Pétion-Ville, from Monday to Saturday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.,” the note specifies.
This extension leads to a reshuffling of the initially planned schedule. The registration of political groups, which was supposed to take place from July 22 to 27, is now postponed. “Therefore, the registration of political groups is postponed to the period from August 10 to 14, 2026,” the note emphasizes.In its note, the CEP indicates that this decision is part of its desire to stay attentive to political actors, whom it describes as ‘real stakeholders in the electoral process.’ The institution also reaffirms its commitment to conducting this process in an inclusive and impartial manner, respecting the principles of independence, transparency, and democratic accountability.
To allow the 316 approved political parties to form coalitions before the elections, the Electoral Council launched the registration of political party groupings from July 13 to July 17.
