The commander of the Gang Suppression Force (FRG), Erdenebat Batsuuri, visited the Artibonite department on Thursday, August 13, 2026, to check on the operations of the Sri Lankan contingent stationed in the area. During the visit, he met with military officials and several local authorities, including the deputy delegate, the mayor of Gonaïves, and the bishop, and discussed the security situation, coordination of operations, and relations with the communities.After the West, Artibonite is the second region to host soldiers from the Gang Suppression Force (FRG). Authorized by the UN Security Council (through resolution 2793), the FRG aims to reduce and weaken the operational capabilities of armed gangs terrorizing the country. The FRG’s strategy rests on three main pillars. The first is to reduce, and then dismantle, the territorial control of gangs. The second focuses on securing critical infrastructure, especially major roads. And the third concerns the sustainable strengthening of Haitian institutions’ capacity so that they can eventually handle gang violence on their own.
