Engineer and lawyer Ruben Sanon, a recognized specialist in professional training, presents this year a work of crucial importance for the country: A New Look at Ayiti and Its Professional Training. Prefaced by Jean Rénal Jeune and introduced by Pastor Dr. Jean Bilda Robert, this 238-page book is intended both as a civic reflection, a pedagogical work, and a genuine plea for the modernization of Haiti through technical and vocational education. But what, then, is the backdrop of this ambitious work?

Divided into three major parts and fourteen chapters, this book is a compilation of thirty-three articles published in French and Creole, mainly in the columns of the daily newspaper Le Nouvelliste, over a period of twenty-two years, from February 2001 to September 2026. Each chapter opens with a profound reflection that invites the reader to think about Haiti differently, based on its social, educational, and economic realities.

In the first part, devoted to Haiti, Ruben Sanon offers a bold reflection on the institutional future of the country. The author makes recommendations concerning nearly two hundred articles that could be incorporated into a potential new Constitution. These proposals address in particular the political system, social and economic structures, political culture, as well as the role of spirituality in the practice of professions. Through this approach, the author demonstrates that the development of a country cannot be limited to traditional political discourse: it must also be based on ethical values, a structured vision of the State, and a better organization of society. In the second part, Ruben Sanon emphasizes the fundamental importance of the book in the intellectual and moral development of a nation. By mentioning the book signings organized by two of his fellow writers, he highlights the crucial role of authors, readers, and cultural spaces in the dissemination of knowledge. This part reminds us that reading remains a powerful tool for social transformation, capable of developing critical thinking, strengthening civic awareness, and transmitting values essential to a modern society. In a country facing numerous structural difficulties, promoting books and reading also means defending culture, education, and collective memory. The third part, the largest and perhaps the most important of the work, is dedicated to professional training in Haiti. Through rigorous analyses and concrete proposals, the author demonstrates that technical and professional training represents one of the major keys to national development. Ruben Sanon denounces the contempt often shown for technical professions in Haitian society and advocates for a revaluation of manual labor, practical learning, and professional skills.According to him, Haiti will not be able to sustainably fight unemployment, poverty, and economic dependence without massively investing in training young people in modern and productive trades. The author also shows that vocational training is an essential lever for creating jobs, encouraging entrepreneurship, reducing the exodus of young people, and strengthening the national economy. This part of the book thus appears as a genuine social project based on competence, discipline, know-how, and innovation.

A new look at Ayiti and its vocational training will be available at the 32nd edition of Livres en Folie, on June 4, at the El Rancho Convention Center.
