Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé left Haiti this Sunday to go to Saint Lucia, where he will represent the country at the 51st Conference of Heads of State and Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). The meeting is being held from July 5 to 8, 2026, at Sandals Grande St. Lucian in Gros Islet.According to an official statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, this mission aims to strengthen regional cooperation and consolidate Haiti’s relations with CARICOM member states. “This participation reflects the government’s desire to strengthen regional cooperation, consolidate Haiti’s relations with CARICOM member states, and promote constructive dialogue on the major challenges facing the region, including security, economic integration, climate resilience, sustainable development, and governance cooperation,” the Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement.
“During this high-level meeting, the Prime Minister will represent Haiti’s priorities and reaffirm the government’s commitment to a strengthened regional partnership based on solidarity, mutual respect, and finding joint solutions to common challenges,” the government added in the statement.The Prime Minister’s office says this trip will also be an opportunity to have bilateral talks with several heads of state and government, as well as with other regional partners. “This official mission will also provide the chance to hold bilateral discussions with several heads of state and government, as well as with regional partners, to strengthen diplomatic ties and explore new cooperation opportunities for the benefit of the Haitian people,” the Prime Minister’s office emphasized.
The Haitian Government reiterates, in the statement, its belief that strengthening regional integration remains a key lever for stability, peace, prosperity, and sustainable development in the Caribbean. “The Government of the Republic remains convinced that strengthening regional integration is an essential lever to promote stability, peace, prosperity, and sustainable development in the Caribbean,” the statement concludes.
From July 5 to 8, 2026, the 51st Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) will be held in Saint Lucia, at the Sandals Grande St. Lucian in Gros Islet. The opening of this session will be a crucial step for regional integration, with Martinique attending for the very first time as an associate member, continuing its path of Caribbean engagement.According to the information shared by the organization’s secretariat, the work of this session will focus in particular on economic issues, security, climate change, and strengthening cooperation between the different territories in the region.
